As the hub of art and books, the Bras Basah Complex has its origins. The complex was built in the 1980s and was a faithful host of small-scale local music recitals, book fairs and art exhibitions that were extremely popular with the locals and confirmed its position as the district’s cultural hub.
The Bras Basah district, situated right in the heart of the city, was the traditional location for book stores. It came as no surprise that the Bras Basah Complex attracted a myriad of well-known book merchants with its establishment, even those from other regions, to become tenants, bringing its reputation of being Singapore’s Book City.
